Chief Accountant
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Chief Accountant to lead the organization’s accounting operations and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all financial activities. The successful candidate will oversee financial reporting, manage the accounting team, maintain internal controls, and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and corporate policies. This role provides strategic financial insights that support business growth, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff while promoting high standards of performance and professional growth.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial adjustments.
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Monitor general ledger activities and ensure the accuracy of financial transactions and account balances.
- Prepare financial reports, management reports, and performance analyses to support executive decision-making.
- Conduct variance analysis, trend analysis, and financial performance reviews, identifying opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate annual external audits and act as the primary liaison with auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, statutory reporting requirements, and applicable financial legislation.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning activities.
- Collaborate with department managers to provide financial guidance, budgeting support, and cost management recommendations.
- Oversee fixed assets, inventory accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, governance standards, and financial risk management practices.
- Support ERP optimization initiatives and continuously improve accounting processes through automation and best practices.
- Contribute to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) initiatives by supporting company compliance programs and organizational policies.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Expertise in preparing financial statements, management reports, and statutory reports.
- Solid understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to mentor and develop accounting professionals.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience implementing and maintaining effective internal controls and financial governance frameworks.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, preferably SAP, and accounting software.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling, reporting, and data analysis.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting strict reporting deadlines.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CMA, or CA is highly preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of overall professional experience in accounting or finance.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in a senior accounting or leadership role.
- Previous GCC experience is considered an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with SAP ERP or similar enterprise financial systems is highly desirable.
