Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Material Manager to oversee the planning, evaluation, approval, and management of construction materials throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will ensure that all materials comply with project specifications, client requirements, local authority regulations, and international quality standards.

Working closely with project managers, consultants, procurement teams, suppliers, and contractors, the Material Manager will play a critical role in ensuring timely material approvals, technical compliance, cost optimization, and efficient supply chain coordination to support successful project delivery.


Key Responsibilities

Material Management & Compliance

  • Develop and implement effective material management processes that align with project specifications, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all construction materials comply with approved project specifications, local authority regulations, and international engineering standards.
  • Establish material management strategies that support project objectives, quality standards, and business goals.
  • Monitor material compliance throughout procurement, delivery, installation, and project completion.

Material Approval & Technical Review

  • Review and approve material submittals to ensure compliance with project specifications and engineering requirements.
  • Verify that all technical parameters, product certifications, and supporting documentation are complete before submission.
  • Coordinate material approval processes with consultants, clients, and statutory authorities to obtain timely approvals.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of approved, rejected, and pending material submissions.

Procurement & Supplier Coordination

  • Collaborate with procurement teams to identify suitable local and international material suppliers.
  • Evaluate materials based on quality, performance, availability, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop strong relationships with manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers to ensure reliable product availability.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing, and emerging construction materials to support informed purchasing decisions.

Cost Optimization & Value Engineering

  • Identify value engineering (VE) opportunities to reduce project costs without compromising quality or performance.
  • Recommend alternative materials that meet technical specifications while improving project efficiency and cost savings.
  • Support project teams with material selection strategies that enhance productivity and long-term asset performance.
  • Analyze material usage and recommend process improvements to minimize waste and optimize inventory.

Project Coordination

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Design Engineers, QA/QC teams, Procurement, and Site Engineers to ensure material requirements are met.
  • Prepare and maintain material tracking schedules to monitor approval status, procurement progress, and delivery timelines.
  • Resolve material-related technical issues that may impact project schedules or construction activities.
  • Provide technical support during project planning, execution, and closeout phases.

Quality, Safety & Documentation

  • Ensure all materials meet quality assurance standards before installation or use on-site.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for material approvals, technical data sheets, certifications, and compliance records.
  • Support Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives by ensuring materials comply with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives related to material management.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, engineering products, and material specifications.
  • Comprehensive understanding of local authority requirements and international construction standards.
  • Experience reviewing material submittals, technical documentation, and product certifications.
  • Excellent knowledge of material engineering principles and product performance.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, supplier management, and supply chain coordination.
  • Experience identifying value engineering opportunities and cost-saving solutions.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and material tracking systems.
  • Experience using ERP systems; SAP knowledge is preferred.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in material management, procurement, construction, or engineering.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience managing material approvals and technical submittals.
  • Previous GCC experience is preferred.
  • Experience with commercial, residential, infrastructure, or industrial construction projects is highly desirable.
