Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to lead and coordinate mechanical engineering activities within MEP construction projects. The role is responsible for providing technical expertise, managing mechanical project execution, coordinating with project stakeholders, and ensuring that mechanical systems are delivered in accordance with approved designs, project specifications, applicable codes, quality requirements, and safety standards.

The successful candidate will oversee mechanical works from planning and design coordination through installation, testing, commissioning, and project closeout. The position will work closely with clients, consultants, architects, subcontractors, suppliers, and multidisciplinary project teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure successful project delivery.

The role requires strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, mechanical services, project coordination, construction methodologies, and MEP standards, together with the ability to manage schedules, resources, costs, and technical deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the planning and execution of mechanical works across assigned MEP construction projects.
  • Review project requirements, drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation to establish mechanical execution priorities.
  • Provide technical leadership and engineering support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review mechanical designs and ensure proposed solutions are practical, efficient, compliant, and suitable for site implementation.
  • Coordinate the installation of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building-services systems.
  • Ensure mechanical works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, standards, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Coordinate mechanical activities with electrical, plumbing, civil, structural, architectural, and other project disciplines.
  • Identify design conflicts, interface issues, and constructability concerns and coordinate appropriate solutions.
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to monitor mechanical installation progress and workmanship.
  • Investigate technical problems encountered during construction and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Monitor project progress against approved schedules, milestones, and planned deliverables.
  • Support project planning, resource allocation, manpower planning, and material requirements for mechanical works.
  • Monitor mechanical project costs and assist with effective budget and resource control.
  • Coordinate with procurement teams, suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors to ensure timely availability of required materials and equipment.
  • Review technical submittals, material approvals, shop drawings, method statements, calculations, and related mechanical documentation.
  • Coordinate with consultants and clients for technical submissions, inspections, approvals, and project requirements.
  • Lead or participate in technical and project coordination meetings and provide progress updates to management.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure mechanical works are completed according to approved technical and quality requirements.
  • Conduct inspections and coordinate testing of installed mechanical systems.
  • Support the commissioning process and ensure mechanical systems perform according to approved project requirements.
  • Identify outstanding works, defects, and commissioning issues and coordinate timely rectification.
  • Ensure proper preparation and completion of mechanical project documentation, including inspection records, test reports, as-built drawings, and handover documents.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior mechanical engineers and project team members.
  • Assist in resolving client, consultant, subcontractor, and site coordination issues.
  • Support project closeout, final inspections, commissioning, and handover activities.
  • Support the implementation of HSE initiatives, participate in safety-awareness activities, and contribute to incident reporting and corrective actions in accordance with company and Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements.

Mechanical Systems & Technical Coordination

  • Provide engineering oversight for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, ventilation, and other mechanical building-services systems.
  • Review mechanical layouts, equipment schedules, technical specifications, calculations, and design documentation.
  • Verify that mechanical installations comply with approved design requirements and applicable engineering standards.
  • Coordinate equipment locations, service routes, access requirements, and interfaces with other disciplines.
  • Review equipment selections and technical proposals for suitability and compliance.
  • Support value-engineering initiatives aimed at improving system performance, constructability, energy efficiency, and lifecycle cost.
  • Identify opportunities to improve mechanical system reliability, maintainability, and energy performance.
  • Resolve technical queries and design discrepancies in coordination with consultants and clients.
  • Ensure installation methods and materials are appropriate for the project environment and operating requirements.

HVAC Engineering

  • Oversee the installation and coordination of HVAC systems in accordance with approved designs and specifications.
  • Review HVAC layouts, ductwork, piping, equipment schedules, and related technical documentation.
  • Monitor installation of air-conditioning, ventilation, chilled-water, and associated mechanical systems where applicable.
  • Coordinate HVAC works with architectural, electrical, structural, and other building-services requirements.
  • Support testing, balancing, commissioning, and performance verification of HVAC systems.
  • Identify technical and installation issues affecting HVAC performance and coordinate corrective measures.
  • Promote energy-efficient and sustainable mechanical-system solutions where appropriate.

Plumbing & Fire Protection

  • Coordinate installation and technical activities associated with domestic water, drainage, sanitary, and related plumbing systems.
  • Review plumbing layouts and ensure proper coordination with architectural and structural requirements.
  • Monitor installation of fire-protection mechanical systems in accordance with approved designs and applicable requirements.
  • Coordinate testing and commissioning of relevant plumbing and fire-protection systems.
  • Ensure materials, equipment, installation practices, and testing procedures comply with project specifications and applicable standards.

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Develop and maintain mechanical work plans and execution schedules.
  • Monitor actual progress against planned activities and identify potential delays.
  • Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other resources required for project execution.
  • Assist with preparation of project budgets, cost estimates, forecasts, and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate procurement requirements to prevent delays caused by material or equipment shortages.
  • Monitor subcontractor productivity and progress.
  • Assist in developing recovery plans when mechanical activities fall behind schedule.
  • Maintain clear communication between engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project-management teams.

Quality Assurance & Inspection

  • Ensure mechanical works comply with approved quality plans, inspection procedures, project specifications, and relevant standards.
  • Review and coordinate inspection requests and testing requirements.
  • Conduct or participate in site quality inspections.
  • Identify defects, non-conformities, and workmanship issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Monitor material quality and verify that approved materials are used for project installation.
  • Maintain appropriate quality records and technical documentation.
  • Support internal, client, consultant, and third-party inspections where required.

Testing, Commissioning & Handover

  • Coordinate mechanical testing and commissioning activities with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and specialist contractors.
  • Review testing and commissioning procedures and schedules.
  • Monitor system performance during commissioning and assist with troubleshooting.
  • Ensure deficiencies identified during testing are properly recorded and rectified.
  • Support final inspections and project completion activities.
  • Coordinate preparation of as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, test certificates, warranties, and other required handover documents.
  • Support the transition of completed mechanical systems to the operations or facilities-management team.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to mechanical engineers, supervisors, technicians, and project personnel.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their technical and professional development.
  • Coordinate effectively with clients, consultants, architects, contractors, suppliers, and internal departments.
  • Lead or participate in project coordination and technical meetings.
  • Communicate project progress, technical concerns, risks, and required actions clearly to relevant stakeholders.
  • Build productive working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Resolve technical and coordination issues in a timely and professional manner.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and value-engineering exercises.
  • Assist with technical evaluations of suppliers, subcontractors, and mechanical equipment.
  • Support preparation of project reports, progress updates, technical presentations, and management information.
  • Participate in project audits, inspections, HSE reviews, and quality assessments.
  • Maintain awareness of current mechanical engineering technologies, construction practices, energy-efficiency solutions, and industry developments.
  • Contribute to continuous-improvement initiatives and lessons-learned activities.
  • Ensure technical records are maintained in accordance with company and project requirements.
  • Perform other engineering and project-related duties assigned by management.

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and MEP building-services systems.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar engineering/design software is preferred.
  • Familiarity with BIM coordination tools is an advantage.
  • Experience with project-management or construction-management software is desirable.
  • ERP knowledge, particularly SAP, is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Professional engineering certification or registration is an advantage.
  • Additional qualifications in project management, HVAC, MEP, energy management, or related disciplines are beneficial.

Job Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of professional engineering experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical project engineering, MEP construction, mechanical supervision, or a similar senior engineering role.
  • Demonstrable experience managing mechanical works on medium to large-scale construction or MEP projects.
  • Strong experience in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, mechanical systems, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience reviewing drawings, specifications, technical submissions, method statements, and material approvals.
  • Experience with project planning, resource management, quality control, and project documentation.
  • GCC experience is preferred, with at least 2 years considered an advantage.
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP/project-management systems is an advantage.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a technically strong Senior Mechanical Project Engineer with extensive experience in MEP construction and mechanical building-services projects.

The candidate should be capable of leading mechanical engineering activities from planning and design coordination through installation, testing, commissioning, and handover. Strong technical judgment, project coordination, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills are essential.

Experience in HVAC, commercial buildings, residential developments, hospitality, infrastructure, industrial facilities, healthcare projects, or large-scale MEP construction will be advantageous.
