Service Technician (Field) – Electronics & Home Appliances

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain household electronic appliances and related equipment at customer locations.

The technician will be responsible for identifying technical faults, determining the appropriate repair or replacement solution, coordinating required spare parts, completing service documentation, and ensuring a professional customer experience.

This position requires strong hands-on technical knowledge, problem-solving ability, attention to safety, and the ability to work independently while traveling to customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend customer locations to inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain household appliances and electronic equipment.
  • Identify technical faults using appropriate diagnostic procedures, tools, and test equipment.
  • Determine whether defective components should be repaired, adjusted, or replaced based on technical assessment and manufacturer requirements.
  • Perform functional testing after repairs to verify that appliances and equipment are operating correctly and safely.
  • Diagnose electrical, electronic, mechanical, refrigeration, and related faults within the technician’s area of qualification.
  • Troubleshoot electronic systems and hardware, including audio, video, digital signal processing, A/V control systems, and USB-connected applications where applicable.
  • Review service requests and technical information before visiting customer locations to improve first-visit repair effectiveness.
  • Identify and request required spare parts following initial diagnosis and coordinate their availability before scheduled service visits.
  • Maintain accurate records of parts used, repairs completed, equipment condition, and customer service activities.
  • Complete service reports, warranty documentation, work orders, inspection records, and other required administrative documentation.
  • Process warranty-related service claims accurately and within required timelines.
  • Explain identified faults, repair requirements, and completed work clearly to customers.
  • Provide professional customer service and respond appropriately to customer questions and concerns.
  • Ensure all repairs and installations comply with applicable technical, safety, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Maintain service tools, diagnostic equipment, spare parts, and other company-provided resources in good working condition.
  • Monitor assigned spare-parts inventory and report requirements or shortages promptly.
  • Maintain the company vehicle in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition and report any maintenance requirements.
  • Use mobile applications, service-management systems, and other digital tools to update job status and submit service information.
  • Plan daily service calls efficiently and manage assigned appointments according to operational priorities.
  • Work independently at customer locations while maintaining regular communication with the service team and management.
  • Exercise appropriate judgment regarding electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and other workplace safety risks.
  • Follow company procedures relating to customer service, safety, warranty handling, vehicle use, tools, equipment, and documentation.
  • Perform other technical or service-related duties assigned by management.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair major household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, ovens, cookers, dishwashers, air-conditioning units, and other appliances according to the technician’s qualifications and assigned product range.
  • Diagnose electrical and electronic components using appropriate meters, testers, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Carry out component-level or module-level replacement where applicable.
  • Configure and troubleshoot supported electronic devices and software-based control systems.
  • Verify appliance performance and safety following repairs.
  • Follow technical manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, manufacturer instructions, and approved repair procedures.
  • Escalate complex or unresolved technical problems to senior technical support when required.
  • Maintain awareness of updated product technologies, diagnostic procedures, and repair techniques.

Customer Service Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional conduct and appearance when representing the company at customer premises.
  • Communicate technical information in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Confirm customer concerns before beginning diagnostic or repair work.
  • Explain repair findings, required parts, estimated service requirements, and completed work appropriately.
  • Protect customer property and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Obtain required customer confirmation or service acknowledgment after completing assigned work.
  • Handle customer concerns professionally and escalate unresolved issues through the appropriate channels.

Job Knowledge & Skills

Required Technical Knowledge

  • Strong practical knowledge of home appliance repair and electronic troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of electrical and electronic circuits and components.
  • Knowledge of appliance diagnostic procedures and repair techniques.
  • Familiarity with refrigeration systems and HVAC equipment where relevant to the assigned product range.
  • Ability to use electrical, electronic, refrigeration, and appliance diagnostic tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, service documentation, and equipment specifications.
  • Familiarity with audio/video systems, digital signal processing, control devices, and USB-based applications is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices for electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration-related service activities.

Digital & Administrative Skills

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, mobile service applications, and digital work-order systems.
  • Ability to learn and use company-specific service-management and diagnostic software.
  • Ability to prepare accurate service reports, warranty documentation, and electronic records.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Relevant refrigerant handling certification is required where the role involves refrigeration systems.
  • HVAC certification or technical qualification is an advantage.
  • Certified Electronics Technician (CET) or equivalent electronics certification is an advantage.
  • Other recognized appliance, refrigeration, electrical, or electronics service certifications will be considered beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license with an appropriate and acceptable driving record.

Job Experience

  • 3–5 years of relevant field-service experience in household appliances, electronics, refrigeration, HVAC, or a closely related technical field.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing major home appliances.
  • Experience providing technical service at customer locations is preferred.
  • Experience handling warranty repairs and service documentation is an advantage.
  • Experience using digital service-management applications and diagnostic equipment is preferred.

Physical & Working Requirements

  • Ability to perform field-service activities involving regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and working in confined or difficult-to-access areas where required.
  • Ability to safely handle and move appliances, tools, equipment, and spare parts within applicable workplace and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Ability to work at customer locations and travel between service appointments.
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including occasional extended hours, weekends, or holidays based on operational requirements.
  • Ability to follow all applicable electrical, refrigeration, vehicle, workplace, and customer-site safety requirements.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a technically skilled and customer-focused Field Service Technician with strong experience repairing major household appliances and electronic equipment.

The candidate should be capable of independently diagnosing technical problems, selecting appropriate repair solutions, managing spare-parts requirements, completing service documentation, and communicating effectively with customers.

Candidates with recognized technical certifications and experience across electronics, refrigeration, HVAC, or major domestic appliances will have an advantage.
