Senior Accountant

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting activities, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting support, and financial data analysis. The role is responsible for maintaining reliable accounting records, reviewing transactions, supporting month-end activities, and ensuring financial information is accurate and aligned with applicable accounting standards and company procedures.

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of accounting processes, financial controls, reporting, and ERP systems, with the ability to analyze financial information and provide meaningful support to management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage general accounting activities, including journal entries, ledger maintenance, account classification, and transaction recording.
  • Apply established accounting principles and procedures when processing and reviewing financial transactions.
  • Verify that financial transactions receive the appropriate approvals and are processed within authorized limits.
  • Maintain accurate account structures and ensure transactions are posted to the correct account codes.
  • Prepare and review trial balances, financial statements, management reports, and other accounting schedules.
  • Review financial information for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable accounting requirements and internal policies.
  • Support the preparation of MIS reports, budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis for management.
  • Analyze revenue, expenditure, operating costs, commitments, and business trends to identify financial developments and support forecasting.
  • Monitor financial information and reporting data to help ensure management has timely and reliable financial visibility.
  • Perform budget monitoring and prepare periodic budget-versus-actual analysis, highlighting significant variances and trends.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and improvement of accounting systems, procedures, and financial recordkeeping processes.
  • Use accounting software and ERP technology to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and availability of financial information.
  • Perform account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Conduct reviews or internal audits covering areas such as accounts payable, payroll allocations, cash, fixed assets, and other assigned accounting functions.
  • Identify accounting discrepancies and prepare appropriate adjustment or correcting journal entries when authorized.
  • Maintain appropriate supporting documentation for reconciliations, audits, journal entries, and financial transactions.
  • Monitor fixed asset and inventory records and ensure accounting information remains complete and accurate.
  • Assist with physical verification and reconciliation of company property, equipment, and other assets.
  • Maintain accurate records of asset descriptions, locations, values, and related accounting information.
  • Provide accounting information and analysis to support operational and management decisions.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial controls, accounting processes, and reporting practices.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements and provide requested accounting documentation.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to validate financial and operational data.
  • Assist in resolving accounting, reconciliation, and reporting issues.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and reports as requested by management.
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate control over financial information.
  • Perform other accounting and finance duties related to the position as required.

Job Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of financial accounting processes and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting practices.
  • Solid understanding of the month-end closing process.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting, account reconciliation, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Understanding of banking activities and financial transactions.
  • Ability to analyze financial information and present findings clearly.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting software and modern financial management tools.
  • Experience with ERP systems is essential; SAP functional experience is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy.
  • Good analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple accounting activities.
  • Knowledge of internal financial controls and audit processes.

Job Experience

  • Minimum total experience: 5 years.
  • Relevant accounting/finance experience: 3 years or more.
  • GCC experience: 2 years is preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience in general accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial analysis is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting certification or relevant qualification is an advantage.
  • Experience with SAP or another enterprise resource planning system.
  • Experience working in a structured corporate or multinational environment is an advantage.
