Hotel Maintenance Technician

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Hotel Maintenance Technician to support the reliable operation and upkeep of hotel facilities, guest rooms, equipment, and public areas. The role is responsible for carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance, responding to maintenance requests, and minimizing equipment downtime.

The successful candidate will complete maintenance work orders efficiently, follow hotel procedures and safety requirements, and contribute to continuous improvements in maintenance services. The position requires a practical, customer-focused approach and the ability to respond quickly to operational and guest needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance across hotel facilities, including basic electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and HVAC-related tasks.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and hotel departments and resolve issues professionally.
  • Troubleshoot problems involving fixtures, appliances, lighting, plumbing systems, air-conditioning equipment, and other hotel facilities.
  • Inspect guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, equipment, and building systems to identify maintenance requirements and potential safety concerns.
  • Repair, adjust, or replace damaged or defective fixtures, furniture, equipment, and other hotel assets where appropriate.
  • Complete assigned maintenance work orders within established service timelines and hotel operating procedures.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance activities to reduce equipment failures, service interruptions, and unnecessary downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, spare parts, and completed work orders.
  • Keep maintenance workshops, storage areas, plant rooms, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and properly maintained.
  • Use tools, equipment, materials, and maintenance chemicals safely and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Report significant equipment faults, recurring maintenance issues, safety hazards, or repair requirements to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Coordinate with hotel departments and external contractors when maintenance work requires additional support.
  • Plan maintenance activities in a manner that minimizes disruption to guests and hotel operations.
  • Provide courteous and professional service when interacting with guests and respond to maintenance concerns with a customer-focused attitude.
  • Participate in technical training and development activities to improve maintenance knowledge and stay familiar with relevant equipment and procedures.
  • Support the maintenance team during urgent breakdowns, operational emergencies, and other priority requests.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Follow hotel policies, standard operating procedures, and applicable health and safety requirements.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs and contribute ideas for improving maintenance efficiency and service quality.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and work areas are used and maintained responsibly.
  • Assist with inspections, audits, and compliance activities related to hotel facilities and maintenance operations.
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation for maintenance activities.
  • Perform other maintenance-related duties assigned by the supervisor or management.

Job Knowledge & Skills

  • Practical knowledge of hotel maintenance, building services, and facility operations.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and troubleshoot a range of maintenance problems efficiently.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, carpentry, and general repair activities.
  • Ability to identify maintenance requirements, prioritize urgent issues, and complete repairs to an appropriate quality standard.
  • Good understanding of workplace safety practices when handling tools, electrical systems, equipment, and maintenance materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential equipment or facility problems before they become major issues.
  • Good communication skills for interacting with guests, colleagues, supervisors, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Customer-service orientation with a professional and courteous approach to guest requests.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the wider engineering and hotel operations teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple work orders and adapt to changing priorities, including urgent maintenance requirements.
  • Basic computer skills for recording maintenance activities and managing work orders.
  • Familiarity with ERP or maintenance management systems is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems may be beneficial depending on the hotel’s operational environment.

Job Experience

  • Minimum overall experience: 3 years in maintenance, facilities, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant experience: At least 2 years in hotel maintenance or a comparable facilities/engineering environment.
  • Previous experience in a hotel, hospitality, commercial building, or facilities management environment is preferred.
  • GCC experience: 2 years of GCC experience is an advantage.
  • Experience handling preventive and corrective maintenance work orders is desirable.

Education & Technical Background

  • Technical diploma, vocational qualification, or relevant trade certification in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, building maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant hands-on maintenance experience may be considered alongside formal technical qualifications.
