Job Overview
UrbaCon Trading & Contracting is seeking an experienced Senior Draftsman to produce, review, and manage high-quality engineering and construction drawings for large-scale building and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will prepare accurate shop drawings, coordinate with architectural, structural, and MEP teams, and ensure all technical documentation complies with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented drafting professional with extensive experience in CAD software, technical documentation, and multidisciplinary project coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Drawing & Drafting
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, shop drawings, layouts, and technical documentation using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Develop accurate structural, architectural, and construction drawings based on project specifications, sketches, and engineering designs.
- Ensure all drawings comply with approved project requirements, technical standards, and construction codes.
- Update and revise drawings to reflect design modifications and project changes throughout the construction lifecycle.
Drawing Review & Quality Assurance
- Review technical drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance before submission.
- Perform quality checks to identify and resolve drafting errors, inconsistencies, or conflicts.
- Maintain drawing standards and ensure consistency across all project documentation.
- Verify that only the latest approved revisions are issued for construction and project execution.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, project managers, and site teams to coordinate multidisciplinary drawings.
- Resolve design conflicts by coordinating with project stakeholders and incorporating approved changes.
- Support project teams with technical drafting expertise throughout planning and construction phases.
- Participate in design coordination meetings and contribute to resolving technical issues.
Documentation Management
- Organize, maintain, and manage drawing registers, revisions, technical documents, and project records.
- Ensure all drawings, submittals, and engineering documentation are properly archived and easily accessible.
- Coordinate the printing, plotting, distribution, and controlled issuance of drawings to project teams.
- Maintain document control procedures to support project compliance and traceability.
Team Leadership & Mentoring
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to junior draftsmen.
- Review drafting work completed by team members to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Promote drafting best practices and continuous improvement within the drafting team.
- Support the implementation of new drafting technologies and workflow improvements.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure drafting activities comply with company quality standards, project procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Support Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives by following company safety policies and participating in safety awareness programs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in line with the company’s Integrated Management System (IMS).
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and other CAD drafting software.
- Strong understanding of structural, architectural, and MEP drawings and construction documentation.
- Experience preparing detailed shop drawings, as-built drawings, and technical layouts.
- Excellent knowledge of construction standards, engineering drafting principles, and building regulations.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve drawing discrepancies.
- Excellent organizational and document management skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software such as Revit is considered an advantage.
- Familiarity with SAP ERP or similar enterprise systems is preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in drafting or engineering documentation.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience as a Senior Draftsman or in a similar technical drafting role.
- Previous GCC construction experience is an advantage.
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Drafting, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
