Senior Project Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support the successful planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of construction projects. The role is responsible for ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with approved specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
Working closely with the Project Manager, the Senior Project Engineer will coordinate key project functions, including project planning, resource allocation, cost and schedule control, technical coordination, quality management, contract administration, subcontractor management, material procurement, and HSE compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Support the Project Manager in planning and managing projects from initial mobilization through completion and handover.
- Develop and monitor project plans, work schedules, resource requirements, and execution strategies.
- Coordinate with architects, consultants, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are clearly understood.
- Review project drawings, specifications, technical requirements, and construction methodologies.
- Plan and coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, and other resources to support efficient project execution.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure work progresses according to approved schedules and project objectives.
Project Monitoring & Control
- Track project progress against approved schedules, milestones, budgets, and performance targets.
- Identify potential delays, technical challenges, risks, and resource constraints and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Support the preparation and implementation of recovery plans when project activities fall behind schedule.
- Monitor project performance and provide regular updates to the Project Manager and other relevant stakeholders.
- Prepare and review project progress reports, technical reports, and other required project documentation.
Cost & Budget Management
- Assist in managing project budgets, costs, and expenditures.
- Monitor actual project costs against approved budgets and forecasts.
- Support cost control initiatives and identify opportunities to improve resource utilization and operational efficiency.
- Assist with forecasting project costs and financial requirements.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to ensure effective management of project materials and resources.
Technical & Quality Management
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams during construction and project execution.
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality checks to ensure work complies with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with quality teams, consultants, and contractors to resolve technical and quality-related issues.
- Monitor corrective actions and ensure identified deficiencies are addressed within the required timeframe.
- Promote continuous improvement and identify opportunities to improve construction methods, processes, and overall project delivery.
Contract & Subcontractor Management
- Support contract administration activities, including the review and management of project-related documentation.
- Assist with the preparation and review of change orders, variations, claims, and other contractual matters.
- Coordinate and monitor subcontractor activities to ensure compliance with project schedules, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
- Participate in project coordination meetings and support the resolution of commercial, technical, and operational issues.
- Maintain accurate records of project correspondence, contracts, variations, and other key documents.
Stakeholder Coordination & Communication
- Maintain effective communication with clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Participate in project meetings and provide updates on progress, risks, milestones, and outstanding actions.
- Coordinate across engineering, procurement, construction, quality, commercial, and other functions to support project objectives.
- Ensure project stakeholders are informed of significant issues, changes, and potential risks.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Promote a strong safety culture across all project activities.
- Ensure construction activities are carried out in accordance with applicable Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) requirements.
- Support the implementation of company HSE initiatives and Integrated Management System (IMS) policies.
- Participate in safety meetings, awareness programs, and relevant training activities.
- Support incident reporting, investigation, and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure subcontractors and project teams follow approved safety procedures and site requirements.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional engineering registration, such as MMUP/UPDA certification, will be required or preferred depending on project and local requirements.
- Minimum 8 years of overall professional experience, including at least 5 years of relevant experience in project engineering, construction management, or project execution.
- Previous GCC experience of approximately 2 years will be an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of construction principles, methods, materials, and project execution processes.
- Experience in commercial and residential construction projects will be an advantage.
- Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and resource management.
- Experience coordinating contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Good knowledge of contract administration, change management, project documentation, and reporting.
- Strong leadership and team coordination abilities.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in project management and planning software used for scheduling, budgeting, reporting, and project documentation.
- Knowledge of ERP systems, preferably SAP, will be an advantage.
