Senior MEP Project Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior MEP Project Manager to lead and oversee Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) activities across assigned construction projects. The role combines technical expertise with project leadership to ensure MEP works are delivered safely, efficiently, within approved budgets and schedules, and in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and required quality standards.

The successful candidate will manage multidisciplinary engineering and site teams, coordinate subcontractors and suppliers, and work closely with clients, consultants, architects, regulatory authorities, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

The position will be responsible for project planning, resource management, cost control, scheduling, quality assurance, risk management, technical coordination, and stakeholder communication, with a strong focus on successful project delivery and compliance with applicable construction standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of MEP activities across assigned construction projects.
  • Develop comprehensive project execution plans covering scope, deliverables, resources, budget, schedule, procurement, quality, and HSE requirements.
  • Review project requirements, drawings, specifications, contracts, and MEP design documentation to establish clear execution priorities.
  • Manage multidisciplinary MEP teams, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing engineers, supervisors, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Provide technical direction and leadership throughout the design, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover stages.
  • Coordinate MEP activities with civil, architectural, structural, and other project disciplines to avoid clashes and ensure efficient work sequencing.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, architects, authorities, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders regarding project requirements and MEP deliverables.
  • Monitor project progress against approved schedules, milestones, and key performance indicators.
  • Identify potential delays and develop recovery strategies to maintain project timelines.
  • Manage project resources, including manpower, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and specialist services.
  • Monitor project expenditure, committed costs, forecasts, and budgets and implement appropriate cost-control measures.
  • Review procurement requirements and coordinate with purchasing and supply-chain teams to ensure timely availability of MEP materials and equipment.
  • Support technical evaluations of suppliers, subcontractors, equipment, and materials.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance against contractual, technical, quality, schedule, and safety requirements.
  • Review and coordinate technical submissions, shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, inspection requests, and related MEP documentation.
  • Ensure MEP installations are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer recommendations, applicable codes, and project requirements.
  • Establish and monitor quality-control processes for MEP works.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning, and verification of completed MEP systems.
  • Identify quality issues and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented and closed.
  • Conduct or participate in project progress meetings and provide regular updates to management and clients.
  • Manage project changes, variations, technical queries, and scope adjustments and assess their impact on cost, resources, and schedule.
  • Support the preparation and evaluation of variation claims, extensions of time, and other contractual matters where applicable.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to reduce the likelihood of delays, cost overruns, quality issues, and disputes.
  • Maintain effective communication between project stakeholders and ensure important technical and commercial information is communicated in a timely manner.
  • Ensure project documentation, reports, drawings, specifications, correspondence, inspection records, and commissioning documents are properly maintained.
  • Monitor MEP progress and prepare management reports, forecasts, and project status updates.
  • Coordinate the testing, commissioning, completion, snagging, rectification, and handover of MEP systems.
  • Ensure required as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, test certificates, warranties, and handover documentation are completed.
  • Promote efficient use of materials, manpower, equipment, and subcontractor resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Support the implementation of HSE initiatives, participate in safety-awareness activities, and contribute to incident reporting and corrective actions in accordance with company and Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements.

MEP Technical & Project Coordination

  • Provide technical oversight of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, building services, and other MEP systems within the assigned project scope.
  • Review MEP design information and identify technical coordination issues before installation.
  • Coordinate MEP interfaces with architectural, structural, civil, and specialist systems.
  • Review equipment selections, technical specifications, material proposals, and installation methodologies.
  • Support the resolution of technical queries, design discrepancies, and site coordination challenges.
  • Monitor installation progress and ensure works are sequenced efficiently with other project disciplines.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning, and system integration activities.
  • Ensure MEP systems are delivered in accordance with approved designs and applicable local and international standards.
  • Support project close-out and final handover activities.

Project Planning, Cost & Schedule Management

  • Develop and maintain project schedules covering major MEP deliverables and activities.
  • Establish priorities and work sequences to support overall project milestones.
  • Monitor planned versus actual progress and identify areas requiring corrective action.
  • Review manpower and resource requirements based on project workload and schedule.
  • Monitor project costs, procurement commitments, subcontractor expenditures, and forecasts.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity and reduce unnecessary project costs.
  • Support preparation of project budgets, cash-flow forecasts, cost reports, and financial updates.
  • Implement recovery plans when project activities fall behind schedule.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as a key point of contact for MEP-related matters with clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Attend project meetings and provide clear technical and progress updates.
  • Respond to client and consultant queries in coordination with relevant engineering and site teams.
  • Maintain professional relationships with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support negotiations related to technical changes, variations, schedules, and project requirements.
  • Escalate significant technical, commercial, safety, or schedule risks to senior management promptly.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support project mobilization and establishment of MEP execution strategies.
  • Participate in tender reviews, technical assessments, and project handover from pre-construction teams where required.
  • Assist with recruitment, allocation, and development of MEP project personnel.
  • Mentor engineers, supervisors, and technical staff and promote professional development.
  • Establish effective reporting systems for MEP progress, productivity, quality, and project risks.
  • Participate in project audits, quality reviews, HSE inspections, and management assessments.
  • Ensure project records are maintained in accordance with company and client requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and lessons-learned activities.
  • Perform other project-management and MEP-related duties assigned by management.

Job Knowledge & Skills

Required Technical Knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems and building-services engineering.
  • Strong understanding of MEP design, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance principles.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and associated building-services systems.
  • Understanding of construction drawings, technical specifications, shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, engineering standards, authority requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Understanding of quality-control and inspection requirements for MEP installations.
  • Knowledge of project risk management, technical coordination, and construction methodologies.
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, variations, claims, and project documentation is an advantage.

Digital & ERP Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with project scheduling and construction-management software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of CAD/BIM coordination platforms is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems; SAP experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • A recognized project-management or construction-management qualification is an advantage.
  • Professional engineering registration or membership is beneficial where applicable.
  • Additional certifications in project management, MEP systems, HSE, or quality management are advantageous.

Job Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of professional engineering/construction experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in an MEP project-management or senior supervisory position.
  • Demonstrable experience managing MEP works on medium to large-scale construction or building-services projects.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, quality control, testing, commissioning, and handover.
  • Experience working with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • GCC experience is preferred, with at least 2 years considered an advantage.
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP/project-management systems is an advantage.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a technically strong and commercially aware Senior MEP Project Manager with proven experience leading complex MEP construction activities from planning through completion and handover.

The candidate should demonstrate strong leadership, project-planning, cost-control, technical coordination, and stakeholder-management capabilities. The ability to identify risks early, resolve technical and operational challenges, manage subcontractors effectively, and deliver projects safely, on schedule, and within budget will be essential.

Experience in construction, infrastructure, commercial buildings, residential developments, hospitality, industrial facilities, facilities management, or other large-scale MEP projects will be advantageous.
