Electrical Technical Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technical Engineer to provide technical engineering support for electrical and MEP activities throughout the project lifecycle. The role involves coordinating electrical engineering activities from design development and shop drawings through technical submittals, installation support, testing, commissioning, and project completion.
The successful candidate will work closely with MEP coordinators, contractors, consultants, technical teams, and project management to ensure that electrical works meet approved designs, project specifications, applicable electrical codes, local authority requirements, quality standards, and health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Technical Coordination
- Coordinate with MEP teams, main contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders on electrical engineering and technical matters.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and technical requirements to ensure electrical works are properly planned and executed.
- Coordinate electrical engineering activities with other disciplines to identify and resolve technical conflicts or interface issues.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams throughout the engineering and construction phases.
Shop Drawings & Design Review
- Ensure electrical shop drawings are developed in accordance with approved design drawings, project specifications, technical details, and applicable standards.
- Coordinate electrical drawings with architectural, mechanical, plumbing, structural, and other relevant disciplines.
- Develop and monitor drawing submission schedules to ensure deliverables are submitted within required project timelines.
- Review and approve electrical shop drawings and design calculations before submission to consultants or other authorized parties.
- Ensure the quality, accuracy, and completeness of engineering deliverables before final submission.
Technical Submittals & Method Statements
- Review electrical material technical submittals to ensure compliance with project specifications, approved standards, and technical requirements before submission.
- Review and verify proposed electrical materials and equipment for suitability and compliance.
- Review method statements for electrical activities and ensure alignment with project specifications, safety requirements, and applicable authority regulations.
- Coordinate with relevant technical departments to obtain required reviews, approvals, and technical clearances.
Compliance & Authority Requirements
- Ensure electrical engineering works and technical submissions comply with applicable local authority requirements, electrical codes, safety regulations, and project standards.
- Maintain awareness of relevant standards, including NFPA, local electrical regulations, project specifications, and applicable construction codes.
- Support compliance with requirements of relevant authorities and service providers, including those governing fire and life safety, utilities, telecommunications, and other project-related services.
- Ensure electrical activities are carried out in accordance with approved company policies, procedures, and quality requirements.
Team Coordination & Project Support
- Provide technical direction and guidance to Electrical Engineers, Technical Engineers, Draftsmen, and other assigned team members.
- Plan, organize, and allocate engineering tasks based on project priorities and submission schedules.
- Set clear targets and monitor the progress of assigned engineering and technical activities.
- Support the resolution of technical issues and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to avoid delays.
- Maintain effective communication with the client, consultant, main contractor, MEP Project Manager, and Construction Manager.
- Support the delivery of electrical works to meet project requirements and stakeholder expectations.
Health, Safety & Quality
- Support the implementation of company Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements.
- Participate in safety initiatives, awareness programs, and project safety activities.
- Report technical or safety concerns and contribute to incident investigation and corrective action when required.
- Promote safe working practices and compliance with applicable quality and safety procedures.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of overall work experience, including at least 5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering within construction or MEP projects.
- Previous GCC experience of approximately 2 years or more will be an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering practices within the construction industry.
- Good understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations, including NFPA and applicable local requirements.
- Experience in preparing and reviewing electrical shop drawings, design calculations, technical submittals, and method statements.
- Strong knowledge of MEP coordination and multidisciplinary project environments.
- Professional engineering certification, such as UPDA certification or an equivalent locally recognized and attested qualification, will be an advantage or may be required depending on the project.
- Knowledge of ERP systems, preferably SAP or similar business applications, will be an advantage.
- Strong technical problem-solving, planning, coordination, and team management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
