Store Manager – Retail
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Store Manager to lead overall store operations and ensure the achievement of sales, profitability, service, and operational targets. The role will be responsible for managing both physical store activities and digital sales channels while delivering an excellent customer experience.
The successful candidate will lead and develop the store team, manage inventory and operating costs, maintain retail standards, improve productivity, and identify opportunities to increase sales and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Commercial Performance
- Develop and execute store sales plans to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue targets.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales across key product categories and departments.
- Build a strong sales-oriented culture and encourage the team to maximize opportunities across physical and digital channels.
- Monitor sales reports, management information, KPIs, and commercial performance to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Develop relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to support sales growth, customer traffic, and business performance.
- Ensure promotional, merchandising, and retail activities are implemented accurately and consistently.
- Monitor competitor activity and customer trends to identify opportunities for improving store performance.
Customer Service & Experience
- Lead the team in delivering a consistently high standard of customer service.
- Engage with customers to understand their needs and create a positive and memorable shopping experience.
- Monitor customer feedback and service performance indicators to identify areas for improvement.
- Recognize strong customer service performance and coach employees where service standards need improvement.
- Handle customer complaints and escalations professionally and ensure timely resolution.
- Promote a customer-first culture across all store operations and digital touchpoints.
Store Operations & Standards
- Ensure the store is fully prepared for daily trading and consistently meets required operational standards.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, organization, and store presentation.
- Drive operational efficiency and identify opportunities to improve processes and productivity.
- Work closely with visual merchandising teams to maintain attractive and commercially effective displays.
- Identify operational risks and implement appropriate measures to protect customers, employees, stock, and business assets.
- Ensure company procedures and operational policies are consistently followed.
People Management & Development
- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing store team.
- Set clear performance expectations and monitor individual and team KPIs.
- Provide regular coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to improve employee capability.
- Recognize achievements and encourage a positive, collaborative, and accountable workplace culture.
- Identify and develop high-potential employees to support succession planning and future leadership requirements.
- Apply company HR policies consistently, including those relating to attendance, conduct, performance, and employee behavior.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and workforce planning activities when required.
Cost & Profitability Management
- Support the achievement of store profitability and financial objectives.
- Monitor operating expenses and identify opportunities to control unnecessary costs.
- Manage staffing levels and employee costs according to store activity, customer demand, and approved budgets.
- Improve workforce productivity through effective scheduling and resource allocation.
- Monitor stock losses, operational wastage, and other factors that may negatively affect profitability.
- Analyze financial and operational information to support informed business decisions.
Inventory & Loss Prevention
- Ensure stock is properly managed, stored, displayed, and replenished according to business requirements.
- Monitor inventory levels and work with relevant teams to minimize stock shortages and overstock situations.
- Support stock counts, inventory audits, and loss-prevention initiatives.
- Identify causes of stock loss and implement appropriate corrective measures.
- Ensure inventory-related procedures are followed accurately by the store team.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent university qualification.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in retail or food & beverage sales, preferably including substantial store management experience.
- Proven experience managing retail operations, sales targets, customer service, staffing, and store profitability.
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve sales targets and improve commercial performance.
- Strong understanding of retail operations, customer experience, merchandising, inventory management, and cost control.
- Ability to analyze sales, financial, operational, and workforce data to support decision-making.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and relevant certifications will be an advantage for F&B environments.
- Positive, professional, accountable, and customer-focused approach.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, target-driven retail environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard retail management systems.
